I got another instant message yesterday about my book, 'I Almost Divorced my Husband but I Went on Strike Instead'. The lady said that her Marriage Counselor gave it to her and her husband to read, after nothing else seemed to work.
She said, "I was determined to get a divorce until we read your book. The book explained everything so elloquently that even my husband understood, and we both changed." Then she added, "Sherri, I bet you have no idea how many lives you have touched."
I told her to be sure and get my next book, 'Marriage 101 for Men-Why taking out the trash is a turn on', I told her that everyone who has read it says it is better than the first.

Teaser From the new Book
Although anger and resentment from a wife is warranted, it's mostly directed at the wrong person. Men are not at fault.
Good News and Bad News
Today the bad news that my basement flooded and after backbreaking work we are waiting for the Insurance person to get here.
The good news is that I got a very personal tear jerking message from someone who tells me thast my book saved their marriage. She thanked me from the bottom of her heart.

A Smile is Never Wasted
I was at the grocery store the other day and true to my M.O. I saw a little old lady I thought I recognized. I smiled and spoke to her only to have her keep turning around trying to figure out who I was.
My husband began to tease me. Then he reminded me of the words my kids always said.
They would hide their eyes and say, "There she goes again!"
"It doesn't matter," I said with a grin, "A smile is NEVER wasted."
Think about it---------A SMILE IS NEVER WASTED.

Divorcing All of the Kid's Relatives
I was doing a little girls hair today and she started to cry.
When I asked her what was wrong, she said, "I just spent the night with my cousin and all the memories came back to me."
She was devistated because life had stopped being normal 4 years ago when her mom and dad got divorced.
She said, "Thanksgiving isn't the same, Christmas isn't the same, nothing is the same any more. There are all different people at family functions and the people I have loved all of my life, aren't there any more.'
She explained to me that people who she used to consider relatives aren't relatives any more.
Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we leave!!!

Best books ever used in his practice.
The Counselor who wrote the forward for my new book 'Intimace Soars When you Share the Chores' said, "The two books that Sherri Mills wrote are by far the best books I have ever used in my practice."
He told me that he has had more success in his marriage counseling since he has been using my first book. He said that the both books answered so many questions that earlier didn't seem to have an answer.

Computer Literate?
I had tomake a few changes to my manuscript for my aquisition editor before it could be published and the changes were technical things. I was waiting for my editor to get home from Alaska. She won't be home for at least another week so I muddled through.
Guess what? Almost everything I have learned on the computer, I learned because I had to if it was going to get done.
Perhaps one of these days I will know what I'm doing. Huh?

New Manuscript
I sent my new manuscript in today. It's called 'Intimacy Soars When you Share Chores'.
St. George
I had a signing in St. George Saturday and it went very well.
There were at least four women in tears, thanking me from the bottom or their hearts. One woman brought her husband.
She said, "He knows I'm ready to leave. This is our last chance."
He was willing to buy the book because you could tell he would do anything to save his marriage.
It's amazing how much information I get from all of these signings. The heart wrenching stories I hear are just like the stories I hear in the Beauty Salon.

Divorced Three Times
When I was signing books a woman came up to me, picked up my book then gave a scowl.
I said, "This book is about keeping marriages together."
She said, "My daughter doesn't need it, she has been divorced three times and is on her fourth one."
I said, "Maybe this book would help with her next one, It helps you to understand why husbands do what they do."
Her answer was, "She understood too much and none of them helped her with anything in the house."
Obviously, she walked off.
My head was spinning as I thought, "What just happened?"

Signing
I was signing books in Draper and a woman bought one of my books. As she was leaving my table she whispered, "Thank you so much for what you are doing. It is very important and it is so brave of you."
I wouldn't call me brave. I would call me intent on doing whatever I have to do to stop the skyrocketing divorce rate.

I was signing books the other day and I had so many people come up to me saying they were having trouble in their marriages. Some could not afford a book, however they wanted some much needed advice.
For the first time, I told a number of these people to email me. I told them I would be glad to help them in whatever way I could.
Wouldn't you know it, that very day, My email went down. I haven't been able to get emails for more than a week now.
After I complained for the fourth time, they finally told me they were having technical difficulties.
Ugh!!!!!!!!

Old Friend
I was sitting next to a lady at lunch yesterday who kept staring at me. She finally asked who I was and where I was from. It turns out that I used to do her hair 45 years ago.
She said she was retired and asked if I was.
I told her not only am I not retired, but I am working almost full time, writing a book and marketing my other book. So no, it will be a long time before I am retired.
When I mention the name of my book most people say, "Oh ya, I've heard about that book."
I wonder why. lol Could it be because it's called 'I Almost Divorced my Husband but I Went on Strike Instead'?

Remarried
One of my clients who has been widowed for years is contemplating getting married.
She said the reason she is dragging her feet is because she doesn't know how her fiance feels about housework.
She said, "I loved my husband, but he never did anything around the house." Then she said emphatically, "I will NEVER go through that again, even if it means we never get married."

Exceptions to The Rule
Someone asked me yesterday if I believed that a couple should never get a divorce (no matter what).
I answered by saying there is a specific place in my book where I state, "If you are in an abusive marriage, You need to get out as soon as possible."
There are also other good reasons for divorce. However most marriages end because the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence. Most couples compare their mates bad qualities to someone elses good qualities. They usually discover (too late) that everyone has bad qualities Just in different areas.
If you just don't seem happy any more, stick around. Happiness does return, especially if you get professional help. Keep in mind; if you can't afford professional help, there is no way you will be able to afford a divorce.
When you have children you are going to be connected to your spouse for the rest of their lives. Perhaps you can choose to be connected under the same roof.

For the Children of Divorce.
I went to my granddaughters reception last night and as I was sitting at my table surrounded by loving family members, I spotted my ex-son-in-law at a table all alone. He was there for his daughter.
I felt so bad for him. I felt like leaving my table and joining him. However, at that moment another couple sat down next to him and began to visit with him. It was his ex-wife and her husband.
It did my heart good to see them get along for the sake of their children.

Hand Shake
I was signing books yesterday and a woman came up to me and read the name Sherri Mills on my book.
She grabbed my hand and shook it with both hands. She was extremely excited.
She said, "I am so glad to meet you, you saved my sister's marriage." She wouldn't let go of my hand.
I asked her where her sister found my book.
She replied, "Her Counselor gave it to her. "
I loved that.

Peek-a-boo
At my signing a couple of weeks ago a young gentleman came over to my table after peeking around corners for a while. He told me he had been divorced twice and he didn't want to lose this wife.
He asked me what was expected of him at home.
I asked him, "Do both of you work?"
He answered, "Ya, she works two jobs but I make the most money." I had heard that before.
I said, "You need this book."
He answered, "I thought it was their fault the first two times, but when it happens three times, I"m thinking it might just be me."
He bought the book and when I went back to the same store two weeks later he came in and was real excited to tell me how much he had learned. He said, "I had no idea I was supposed to be sharing the work load." Then he said, "She was so excited that I had come up with it by myself. "
He thanked me before he left.

Book Signing
A lady came over to me at the book signing and said she just wasn't happy in her marriage. Her husband didn't do anything bad he was just too boring and she couldn't stand it any more.
I asked her specific questions; Does he drink? Is he a slob? Is he abusive?
I think I was able to come up with quite a few real bad faults. I told her that if she traded her boring husband for another guy she just may end up with one who was guilty of many of these faults, one of them might be that he doesn't like her children.
I told her to take a 3x5 card and write all of her husband's good qualities on it. She must include everything, even something as simple as, does he brush his teeth . Keep the card where she could read it every day.
She seemed to agree and I saw a flicker of hope that she just might have a keeper after all.

Signing
I was doing a book signing in Murray yesterday and an elderly man came over to chat. He told me that his daughter walked out on her husband years ago because he wouldn't do anything around the house. He seemed so sad when he told me that she had been miserable ever since.
Then he added, "I hate to admit this but my son's wife left him for the very same reason."
When I told him that my ultimate goal was to stop the skyrocketing divorce rate, he thanked me for getting the information out.
Later A lady came over to my table. As she was scanning through my book she said, "This is really needed, I am a counselor so I know what I'm talking about."

Client/friend
A very dear friend came in to get her hair done and she was almost in tears.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
She said, "Youre not the one to talk to."
"Why not?" I asked. Somewhat surprised.
"Because I left my husband", She answered very timidly.
She was right. I never sit still for divorce, especially since I knew her husband and their life. I started being very sneeky and listened to her complaints, one of which was that she hated him.
We went through the pro's and con's, which took quite a while, by the way.
After we were through she discovered that there were two people who weren't perfect in that family. One of them may have been her.

Happy Transformed Husband
My husband had to go on a trip this morning. I was in the shower when he left. When I got out I went in the bedroom and he had made the bed, as usual. However the nicest thing he did was to turn my side of the bed down and put the chanel changer on my pillow, hoping I would go back to bed. I didn't and I won't. He worries too much.
He went from doing nothing around the house to practically taking over. And the sectacular thing about that is that he went from being disallusioned and in perpetual limbo to being happier and more fulfilled than he ever thought possible.

Sidelined
Approximately two months ago I began having trouble with my heart. So I have been sidelined from working on my book. Ironically, my editor had a retinal bleed at the same time, so all of the material I had ready for us to collaborate on could not be done either.
I am finally to the point that I can think. Thinking is a crutial if you want to write and for some reason when the heart goes, so goes the brain. My brain is somewhat back, however poor Elaine (my editor) has had another retinal bleed and another surgery.
We are almost at the end so it is frustration for both of us. However, that's the way life is. Huh?

Getting Back to Work
I have been back to work for a week. Even though I'm not supposed to be for two more weeks.
I have been pacing myself. Doing someones hair then sitting for 15 minutes or so. I am not good at accepting how long it takes to get my energy back.
I got a phone call that lifted my spirits though.
A lady said, "Thank you so much for putting yourself out there. Because of your book, I have a whole new appreciation for my husband."
This was a women who already had co-operation on the home front.
See---it could help even good marriages.

Good News
I talked to a lady who had just returned from Chicago. She said that a woman who was sitting in front of her on the plane was reading my book.
She couldn't help but ask how she was enjoying it, so she could report back to me.
The answer was, "I am loving it. It is so easy to read. I just wish I had some of this information before I got my divorce."
Loved that she liked it. Hated that it was too late!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got an email from a sweet young woman, and here it is;
WOW!!!!!!!!I just finished your book. My only question was where was it in 1990 when I got married and why didn't I get it for a wedding present? I almost got a divorce in 2005. Neither of us were happy. We decided after a separation to put 100% into "US" and let the rest fall into place. So much of what you had in your book were feelings and problems that caused the problems that put us on the divorce route.
I am happy to say that my marriage is better today than it ever was. It still needs its regular tune-ups but they all do. I am so happy we chose "us" instead of divorce. It was hard, but it was the best choice and was worth it.
I am going to buy a book for my married daughter and also my single son's. They will need to be aware. Thank you!!!!

Doesn't Get Any Better Than This
It doesn't get better than this: You are an old lady and all of your grandkids love everything you do with their hair and won't let anyone else touch it. Then they ask if they can borrow your shoes to wear to the Prom. You gotta love it.

If I Had Only Known
A sweet young lady came in my Salon last week and was talking about my book.
She said, "Sherri, you are right. If it hadn't been for the resentment and anger that was festering inside because my ex-husband wouldn't do any of the domestic work when we both worked, we wouldn't have been divorced."
She said, "The anger and hate that came out of nowhere at the end and actually caused the divorce, was trivial." Then she added, "If I had only known."
None of us knew!!!!!!

Funeral
I went to a funeral yesterday and when I introduced myelf to one of the sons.
He asked, "Are you the one who wrote the book?'
I said, "I sure am."
He said, "Your book was on my moms bed."
So sweet!

Judging A Book by Its Cover.
I read a blog the other day where a woman was railing against the books, 'I Almost Divorced my Husband but I Went on Strike Instead' and another book 'Strangling your husband is not an option'.
She said they were anti man books.
Obviously she hasn't read either one. I read one and I wrote the other and both of the books are about how to stop blaming our men for everything that happens in our lives.
Funny Huh?

Fun Presentation
The presentation went very well. I had everybody laughing. Two people that I went to High School with were in the crowd. They came all the way from Castle Dale and it made my day.
After I got finished I had a young girl come up to me obviously in marital burn out. I tried to talk her into going to counseling. She said they had no money.
I took one of my books out signed it to her and her husband and gave it to her. I hope it helps.

Call From London
I got an email from London yesterday asking if I would do an interview for their magazine.
Of course I said, "Yes."
They asked for pictures of my family. I gave all the family pictures to my kids so I was scrambling all day to find something.
It seems the only pictures you can use for a magazine are digital pictures that can be sent by email and still be in good enough shape to put on the shining pages of a magazine.
Who knew?
So excited about this!

Give up Control
A lady came in to the Salon today and said that her husband has been so much better since they read my book.
But she said, "I still have so much resentment for him because he doesn't do it like I would like it done."
I said, "I know you and you are a perfectionist. You are going to have to give up control and let him do things that you won't critique."
She realized that if she still wanted him to be a partner on the domestic front she had to accept him as he was.

Book Club
A lady I haven't seen for 40 years called me today and asked me if I would sign a book if she brought it to the Beauty Salon.
Her name is Judy and she told me that her sister Gwen had told her that her book club had chosen 'I Almost Divorced my Husband but I Went on Strike Instead', to discuss that week and how much they all loved it.
She had said, "Judy, you have to read this book."
Judy had looked at the name and said, "Gwen, you know this person. She is the Sherri that used to do your hair."
It made my heart melt.

Send One to Each Daughter
A lady came in the Salon today and was telling me her experience with my book.
She said, "Sherri, the reason I was so excited to get your book wasn't so much for me, but I have a friend who really needed it."
She bought three more books and said, "After my friend read your book she was so excited that she told me to pick up one for each daughter and one for her daughter -in-law."
How exciting is that?

Signing and Hopfully a Marriage Saved
I went to an author palooza signing yesterday and met a wonderful woman. She bought my book and said she and her husband had an appointment with a marriage counselor on Monday. She didn't seem to know the consequences of divorce, so I informed her as to what her children were going to go through.
She was pretty angry with her husband and didn't have much good to say about him. I told her that it would be better for her if she read the book by herself first. That would help her to get rid of the anger and resentment. After that was accomplished she could read it with her husband.
She was talking about how expensive marriage counseling was. I informed her that if she couldn't afford a marriage counselor, there was no way she could afford a divorce.
We had a very nice visit.
She said, "If this saves my marriage, I will take you to lunch."
I answered, "If this saves your marriage, I will take YOU to lunch."

A Changed Man
I just got off of the phone with one of Geralds (male) cousins. He wanted to talk about my book.
He has had the book for 7 months so I was pretty anxious to hear what he had to say.
He started out by saying, "You know Sherri, I have to admit that When I first read the book, I did it with the idea of finding fault with it. And I did. I found part of it was good and some of it I didn't like."
Then he said, "The othert day, I picked it up and decided to read it for content. And I found it was masterful. Everything made sense and I could see that you really knew what you were talking about."
What he said next made my day. He said, "Yesterday, I read the whole thing clear through again from start to finish and I loved it."
We had a real good discussion about how the world needs this information.
Then he passionately stated, "You have to know Sherri, I don't do things like that. I have never read a book twice. Let alone three times. You have done yourself proud."
He told me that now he and his wife share everything in the house and they enjoy working together.

You Need Three
I was signing books with a fellow author. She bought my book. She said that she wasn't married but she had three friends who were having problems and really needed my book. She said she was going to read it, then lend it to each one of her friends.
I let her know that in order for anyone to get any good out of the book they needed one of their very own. That way they could keep going back the the pages that pertained to them.
I reminds me of when I had the book 'Your Erroneous Zones'. That book saved my life. When I found a friend or a family member in need, I would buy them one. I was not about to give mine up. It has been used so much that it looks like it is 100 years old.

Wonderful Husband
I got dressed for work this morning and couldn't find a clean uniform.
I asked Gerald if he had seen the one that had just been washed. He knew right where it was.
I said, "I can't wear that one, it's all wrinkled."
Gerald took it and said, "Here, let me go iron it for you."
So matter of fact.
Love that man!!!!!!
